Dr Benoy Shah
is a consultant cardiologist based in Southampton, England.
He read medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, which merged halfway through his training with St. Mary’s Medical School to form the Imperial College School of Medicine (ICSM), from which he graduated in the summer of 2002. He also obtained a First-Class Honours degree in his intercalated Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiovascular Medicine.
After junior doctor jobs in Jersey, London and Oxford (where he completed his MRCP exams during the Oxford SHO rotation), he obtained a national training number in cardiology to train in the Wessex region.
During this time, he took three years out of programme to undertake a higher degree at the Royal Brompton and Northwick Park hospitals. He presented his research at national and international meetings in Britain, Europe and North America during this time. He was awarded his MD degree by Imperial College London in 2016. He has been a consultant cardiologist at University Hospital Southampton since February 2015.
Academic Overview
He has published nearly 90 scientific papers to date, including original research studies (both retrospective and prospective), review articles, invited editorials, commentary/ opinion pieces, case reports, images in medicine and scientific letters to the editor and continues to support younger colleagues looking to publish during their clinical posts.
His original research studies have been published in some of the most high-profile journals within his field of cardiovascular imaging, including the Journal of the American College of Cardiology – Cardiovascular Imaging, Circulation Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography and Heart. Teaching Overview
Dr Shah has a long interest in teaching within medicine and has run training days for cardiology registrars in the Wessex region over the past decade. He is regularly invited to teach on courses and conferences in the UK and also internationally. You can view a list of his invited lectures here.
In 2024, he won a teaching award for best senior doctor within his Division at University Hospital Southampton.
