This has been one of the best courses I’ve attended. Everything was really clear and well structured. I came in not very confident on where to start with publishing, and by the end I had a much better understanding and overview of the different types of publications, what counts as research, and the practical steps involved in getting published. (I genuinely did not know the difference between general review VS systematic review, and did not know we could publish images).
What I found incredibly useful was how each topic was backed up with real examples and walkthroughs. The entire course was so well structured, and the breadth and length of each section was ideal. I also really appreciated the practical tips (eg, search shortcuts, to check which journals have author limits, the advice to not pay to publish). The pacing was perfect and I genuinely feel like there wasn’t a minute that was wasted. In terms of improvement – perhaps during the final brainstorm discussion, it may be more engaging if everyone had contributed to discussing each case rather than it being one to one.
Overall I have taken away so much from this course and I’m really glad I attended it. I personally feel like all junior doctors should attend this course, especially since we’re expected to publish but it’s never actually taught to us. Thank you Dr Shah!
Really well organised course with very useful content and “insider” tips and tricks which are invaluable! Dr Shah is an excellent teacher and very engaging throughout. Some technical issues related to screensharing experienced but otherwise an excellent course!
Thank you for the excellent course. It was thought provoking. Quite rare to find a course specifically for this.
Clear overview, lots of practical examples, open environment, questions encouraged, useful feedback on individual ideas from participants.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course and would like to attend previously prior before my first publication. Dr. Shah has an excellent teaching technique that keeps you engaged throughout. The course significantly enhanced my knowledge in several areas, including how to search on PubMed, generate research ideas, and select the right journal for publication. I also appreciate the one-year support offered after the course for consultation and guidance on our upcoming projects.
I really liked Dr Shah’s take on how we should approach publication and the aspects about conducting research. What I found particular helpful was the interaction and troubleshooting of potential research ideas, and how we should deal with colleagues in an academic environment.
Thank you for this amazing course Dr Benoy Shah, it is very informative and enlightening. I definitely feel much more confident about transforming my ideas into publishable articles. The materials and pacing were tailored to the duration of the course, I didn’t feel too tired or too relaxed. Presentation slides were not busy and it was just right.
Really well delivered. it is a great workshop and lots to learn from this whole day. very informative. Publish or perish! Surely not going to perish now…
This training has provided me with the fuel to get more academic writing done. It illuminated my ignorance on aspects of the process that were the source of inertia to getting on with writing. I will certainly put my education to great use immediately.
Excellent workshop. I enjoyed getting into the breakout rooms. I also enjoyed that we got to see the submission process and how to navigate PubMed.
Really good insight into what kind of journals we can publish into for examples interesting images. The course gave a good understanding into ways we can publish including topics read up on for teaching/journal club. It also covered where/when not to publish to save time which I also found very useful. Moreover, I found going through how to write a submission/manuscript and how to answer any revisions suggested extremely useful.
There were many helpful tips about maximising opportunities for publications, including issues that can arise when trying to publish with others and how to handle them, as well as useful tools like reference managers, which I was previously unaware of. I also like the group discussion section, as it helped get my brain working to try and generate possible ideas. The feedback on what would work and what wouldn’t, and why, was also very helpful. Thanks a lot!
I think it is a great course for learning how to approach scientific publishing. The duration is appropriate, and it covers the key topics needed to get started. It is easy to follow, and the fact that it is online was excellent because I was able to attend from another country. Dr. Shah is concise, approachable, and supportive. His examples were very helpful. It was definitely money well spent.
I wish I had the opportunity to attend this course earlier, as it provided a great format and covered many valuable insights into how to get published. The content was clear, practical, and highly informative, making the publishing process feel much more achievable.
I learnt a lot of new things such as how to actually register a manuscript, photoshopping, the order of a manuscript was also very good
The course was exceptionally informative and well-structured, with each subject covered in a clear and concise manner. The ample number of mini breaks and a dedicated lunch break ensured that participants could absorb the information without feeling overwhelmed. As someone relatively new to research, I found it incredibly beneficial to gain a deeper understanding of terms such as manuscript and systematic review, which I use frequently but had not fully comprehended until now. The course went above and beyond in addressing even the smallest details, such as factors to consider when deciding where to publish research. This level of thoroughness is rare to find online or even when seeking advice from colleagues.
Dr. Shah was nothing short of amazing—polite, engaging, and incredibly dedicated throughout the course. He helped us understand complex topics into simple information and made the experience both enjoyable and enriching. Dr. Shah’s willingness to go the extra mile was particularly evident when he took the time to demonstrate how to edit images—a practical skill that I found unforgettable and immensely helpful. The tools and techniques provided during this course will undoubtedly save a significant amount of time, especially for beginners like myself.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the interactive group activity at the end, where we brainstormed potential topics for service evaluation. This collaborative exercise was a fantastic way to wrap up the course on an engaging and thought-provoking note. I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone looking to understand and enhance their research skills. Dr. Shah’s passion, expertise, and commitment make this an invaluable experience.
The course was highly relevant and well-structured. Really enjoyed how personal examples were incorporated, it made the content more relatable and engaging.
The real-life examples were particularly helpful. Notably, the type of comments one can expect from a reviewer, and how to best to reply to these. Additionally, the live example of the online submission form and how to navigate that. An excellent day overall – thank you very much!
Thank you very much for your time and effort in organising this course. It was very useful and enjoyable and a great insight into publishing. I think the pace was reasonable and breaks were sufficient enough to enable comfortable amount of learning without overload. As other attendees have suggested, I really found your personal examples of cases, articles etc very useful for demonstrating how to practically go about publishing in medicine. I really wish I had gone on this course before going through the publication process for the first time! I hope this course continues to be offered to other trainees/students.
Very useful practical tips and tricks and really appreciated the examples to help put research ideas into context. The worked example breakout rooms made me feel motivated to put things into practice. Having the opportunity to make my own notes suited me well.
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed before I start my research job
Brilliant. So much I did not know about publishing that has been covered today. I feel a lot more confident about trying to publish something now!
I found today really helpful. I have not managed to publish anything so far despite trying a few times but now I can see what I was doing wrong. I will try again now!
This was so useful. I wish I had known these things that we discussed today at the start of my registrar training, but better late than never i suppose! I hope you will run this course again for future trainees.
